THIS WEEK’S NEW DRINK RELEASES

Wolf of the Willows Wolf PUP Australian Pale Ale: This was originally planned as a taproom keg release only but is now available to the public in cans due to the closing of hospitality venues. The crisp and easy drinking Australian Pale Ale has a little light ale malt, with rolled oats and wheat added to give it a little haze. There are some Warrior hops to keep it low on bitter, and the perfect amount of Enigma tropical fruit hops to round out this tasty, smashable beer. Wolf of the Willows enlisted the help of local Melbourne artist and illustrator Marcos from Digable Goods for the Wolf PUP on the label. He was originally commissioned to paint a huge mural at their Mordialloc taproom but that won’t be completed now until its doors can eventually re-open. The Wolf PUP Australian Pale Ale is available for purchase on their website and via indie retailers in Victoria. Those stockists can be found on the Wolf website. ABV 4%.

Actual Vodka Seltzer: With consumer demand for natural, low-calorie drinks increasing, Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) has responded by launching its first white spirit RTD since Sub Zero 25 years ago. CUB is predicting that the hard seltzer category in Australia will mirror the phenomenal growth it has seen in the US, launching Actual Vodka Seltzer. The brewery’s first hard seltzer will come in two varieties – pure and lime – with both made to a vegan recipe with 100 per cent natural ingredients. Pure has no sugar and just 65 calories, while lime is low in sugar and contains 69 calories and both are one standard drink in a slimline can. Actual Senior Marketing Manager Marc Lord said: “The hard seltzer market grew from nothing to become a multi-billion-dollar business in just five years in the United States. This is the next big thing here in Australia, and that’s why Carlton & United Breweries created Actual.” ABV 4.2%

One Brew Nation Brown Ale & DDH Hazy Pale Ale: The first offspring from the marriage between Nomad Brewing Co. and ExperienceIt Beverages have arrived, and what a pair of beauties they’ve delivered. The Brown Ale brings hazelnut brown nectar and wattleseed – one of Nomad’s favourite ingredients – together for a distinctive nutty taste. With a mixture of Australian and NZ malts, the result is a medium bodied brown ale with gentle sweetness from the malts and nuttiness from the wattleseed. The DDH Hazy Pale Ale is big on hops and low on bitterness and is loaded with oats for a soft, pillowy mouth feel. It’s been double dry hopped with Vic Secret, Mosaic and Sabro hops to emphasise the aromas and fruitiness.It’s also been infused with another of Nomad’s go to ingredients – rainforest lime for added zest. ABV 5% & 4.5%.
