Sydney brewery Young Henrys is celebrating the release of Brian’s Brew, a crisp pale ale brewed with passionate homebrewer and Youngcare resident, Brian.
At just 23 years of age, Brian suffered a traumatic brain injury when returning from deployment in Iraq as an Australian Navy Officer. As a result of a cigar being laced with a poisonous substance, Brian was left unable to walk or talk and spent 11 years living in care without appropriate support.
When he received a Home Soon Grant from Youngcare, Brian was able to move into a Youngcare Share House, where he lives happily and confidently with the right support. Brian is passionate about homebrewing, and earlier this year was invited to join the Young Henrys team and brew his very own beer, Brian’s Brew.
Brewed with a mix of Aussie, American and Kiwi hops, Brian’s Brew is now available on tap at the Young Henrys brewery and in select locations. All proceeds from sales of Brian’s Brew will support Youngcare’s mission to help young Australians living with significant physical disabilities find housing, support and independence.
Young Henrys’ Head Brewer, Jesse Searls, says: “Brewed with our good mate Brian, we came together with the legends over at Youngcare to make a dream come true.
“Built on a base of German Pilsner malt, with some wheat and rye thrown in for complexity, we went with three of Brian’s favourite hop varieties as the start of the show. Vic Secret, Citra Lupomax, and NZ’s very own rockstar, Riwaka, brings a beautiful citrusy and tropical aroma.
“Available at select events in Queensland, and the Young Henrys tasting bar, come celebrate a really good cause by drinking a really good beer. Cheers!”
With more than 2.5 million Aussies under 65 living with a disability, many of which are stuck in inappropriate accommodation, Youngcare fights for independence, choice and dignity, revolutionising the way young people with high care disability live.
