Work has begun on a new beer bar located in the centre of Perth.

Set to open late 2013, the Northbridge Brewing Company is the brainchild of proprietors Michael Rasheed and Michael Keillor, who submitted the brewery concept to a City of Perth tender process regarding a site adjacent to the Northbridge Piazza.

Apparently modelled on the successful Little Creatures brewery in Fremantle, the plan is for a two storey bar and dining area with a sky deck that will overlook the city.

As far as the brewery is concerned, an as yet unconfirmed rumour has it Edith Cowan University’s Hugh Dunn will be brewing, with production expected to top 150,000 litres of small batch craft beer annually. There is no official word on what types of beers will be produced but the recipes are apparently already under development.

According to reports, the brewery plan was announced as the City of Perth’s first choice for the site four years ago. However, plans had to be adapted in the intervening period to fit with new additions and changed to the building code.
