A beer brewed for a milestone, independent Northern Rivers brewery Stone & Wood first brewed their Cloud Catcher pale ale with all-Australian malts and hops to commemorate their second brewery in Murwillumbah.

With a firm bitterness and crisp finish, Cloud Catcher is our full flavoured pale ale brewed with all-Australian ingredients.

For our crew, it’s the beer we reach for when we’re in the mood to explore the possibilities, to seek out the things we love and enjoy them.

Just released, this Cloud Catcher video captures the natural beauty of the Northern Rivers – from the hinterland to the ocean – and the ways we enjoy it, whether it’s trail riding, hiking or free diving. And what better way to finish a day of exploring than with a cold, locally brewed pale ale …

Brewed with all-Australian ingredients and Galaxy, Ella and Enigma hops, Cloud Catcher’s name is inspired by Wollumbin, otherwise known as Mount Warning, which first catches the sunlight each morning.

Located in the lush valleys of the surrounding national park, Wollumbin forms part of an ancient volcanic caldera that supplies the water for our brewing. The tallest mountain in the Northern Rivers, it does a great job of catching clouds that roll over the hinterland – which is why the local Bundjalung people called it ‘Wollumbin’, meaning ‘cloud catcher’.

Nearby in the town of Murwillumbah, we completed building our second brewery in June 2014, with Wollumbin and the Border Ranges creating a beautiful sunset silhouette for our knock-off beers in the afternoon.

To commemorate the build, in July 2014 we brewed a hoppy, fuller bodied and easy drinking pale ale called Cloud Catcher as a limited release – and it was a hit. Later that year, we answered calls from our community and brewed more in 500ml bottles. By 2018, Cloud Catcher was part of our core range of beers.

Our Cloud Catcher pale ale erupts in tropical and stone fruit aromas thanks to Australian Galaxy, Ella and Enigma hops, matched by a full-bodied mouthfeel from pale and crystal malts, a firm bitterness and crisp finish.

Cloud Catcher pale ale (5% alc/vol) is available on tap and cartons and six-packs of 330ml bottles around the country, plus on our official online store, our Tasting Room in Byron Bay and our Brisbane brewery. Seek and enjoy yours today.
