Beer & Brewer met with Thomas Parkerat our 5th bday dinner last week August 30 in Brisbane. He is looking for a job in brewing, starting from the beginning happy to clean kegs, floors, in the lab, and so on. Happy to re-lodate anywhere in Australia, New Zealand or China!
We asked Tom to email us some info about himself, and if you are interested please contact him via the details below.
I’ve had a rough morning after last night, but it was definitely worth it. I really enjoyed the dinner – the range of beers was excellent and so were the meals.
I’ve recently quit my PhD studies in plant genetics as I decided it really wasn’t for me. I studied a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biochemistry & Genetics, and my Honours research project was spent looking at yeast genetics during wine fermentation (in Adelaide). As a result, handling yeast cultures is second nature to me.
My real passion lies in beer. I’ve just come back from a trip to New Zealand where I had the pleasure of attending Beervana as well as a number of other breweries. I also volunteered at GABS earlier this year in Melbourne. I’m also an avid homebrewer and a relatively new but keen member of Brisbane Amateur Beer Brewing Society (BABBS). On top of this, I’ve worked for four years on-and-off in liquor outlets including managing a Liquorland in Mackay for six months.
You heard me correctly last night – I’ve recently become engaged. My fiancé, Jessie, is Chinese, and we met while I was working over in Guangzhou as an English teacher. At the moment, we are living apart but we are working on the necessary visas to see Jessie move here and join me.
As I mentioned, I’m extremely flexible as to where I might move (including back to China). I’m also willing to do anything – I’ll start from the ground up, cleaning kegs or even scrubbing floors!
I really appreciate the time out you took to talk to me last night, and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Please contactThomas Parkerif you are interested or would like to see his resume.
