Phil Withers has a plan. He wants to brew beers that haven’t been seen in Australia since before World War Two – he outlines his passion for all this historically beer in this issue of Beer & Brewer for the Collectors section. And he is willing to take on the big boys to do it.

Thunder Road Brewing, of which Phil is the founder and CEO, has launched legal action against CUB to remove trademarks on heritage beer brands. Some of the brands include Kent Old Brown, Brisbane Bitter and Carlton Malt Ale.

Involving the “use it or lose it” guideline in trademark law, the dispute is now in front of an examiner at the trademark tribunal. Watch this space.
