The nation’s top brewers are invited to battle it out for the title of Australia’s best, with entries now open for the 2022 Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show (RQFWS) Beer Awards presented by Rallings Labels, Stickers & Packaging.

A team of highly experienced judges including brewers, sensory experts and industry figures will award trophies across 15 categories including Champion Brew Pub and the coveted Grand Champion Beer.

RQFWS Beer Advisory Group member and judge Steve Henderson said winning a medal in the competition would help a brewery to enhance its brand.

“Award recipients can gain national recognition and the Grand Champion will also receive a $5,000 bursary thanks to Lion,” said Mr Henderson.

“All entrants receive objective feedback on their beers which helps them to benchmark their production and quality systems in their brewery.

“Last year’s debut of the new Treasury Brisbane Best New Queensland Craft Brewer Award was a great success and was well received by the emerging brewer community, so that will be returning to the 2022 Awards Program,” he said.

The awards also offer a trustworthy guide for consumers, letting them know which beers to enjoy.

Mr Henderson said he expected to see a further increase in entries in 2022 as the RQFWS was extending its 2021 offer of free inbound freight for breweries to include South Australia and West Australia, in addition to New South Wales and Victoria.

“Also in 2022 the RQFWS will be offering entrants free 30 litre keg hire so brewers don’t have to take their kegs away from their taprooms to enter the Beer Awards,” said Mr Henderson.

“The offer of free freight and keg hire makes it easier for brewers that represent a large part of the Australian craft beer community to enter the competition and have their beers assessed by a talented judging pool,” he said.

The RQFWS Beer Awards were reinvigorated in 2019 after a five-year hiatus, with the RNA revitalising the competition to once again showcase Australia’s outstanding brewers and their products. Rallings Labels, Stickers and Packaging are the new presenting partner of the 2022 Beer Awards.

Entries must be in by 4 February 2022 with judging taking place from 28 February and the winners to be announced at an awards presentation on 2 March.
