Estrella Damm is thrilled to announce it will hold its sixth Gastronomy Congress in Melbourne, a one-of-a-kind experience featuring the world’s best chefs, on Monday April 3rd at Maia, Atlantic Wharf.
Previously held in other cities around the world including London and Miami, Estrella Damm Gastronomy Congress is a unique and exclusive live event, exploring the theme of high creativity, featuring the culinary skills and demonstrations by some of the World’s 50 Best chefs.
The Melbourne event will include last year’s World’s 50 Best number 2 restaurant El Celler de Can Roca’s chef Joan Roca.
Roca is known for elaborating traditional cuisine together with avant-garde techniques. Over the years, Roca has served as a mentor and inspirational figure for countless young chefs globally and was voted number 1 in The World’s 50 Best in 2013 and 2015, and was also the winner of the Chefs’ Choice Award.
Joining Joan Roca will be Virgilio Martínez, the Peruvian chef and restaurateur named number 4 by World’s 50 Best and the number 1 chef in Latin America in 2016. He is known for his use of applying modern cooking techniques to indigenous Peruvian ingredients. Roca and Martínez will also be joined by Albert Adrià, number 29 in the world.
Adrià from Tickets in Barcelona, with a Michelin Star and ranked World’s #29 Restaurant in The World’s 50 Best list 2016, is the brother of Ferran Adrià of elBulli, and was also awarded with two Michelin Stars for his restaurants Pakta and Hoja Santa.
Estrella Damm has also secured one of Australia’s best chef, Jock Zonfrillo, from Restaurant Orana. Born in Scotland to an Italian and Scottish family, Jock Zonfrillo originally moved to England working with some of the best chefs in the United Kingdom including David Cavalier at Michelin-starred Chapter One and Marco Pierre-White at Les Saveurs. In 2000 Zonfrillo moved to Sydney as head chef of Restaurant 41 and then to Adelaide where he now runs Restaurant Orana which was named Restaurant of the Year at The Advertiser Food Awards for two years in a row in 2014 and 2015.
