WA’s Mash Brewing, producing quality craft beer for over six years, wants to encourage more of its female customers to drink beer.

The percentage of female beer drinkers is notoriously low in comparison to its male counterpart and Mash Brewing wants to adjust that statistic by changing women’s perception of beer through Women Only Tasting Evenings.

These events will be held at Mash’s Swan Valley venue on the 1st and 8th of August with more dates down the line if the nights prove popular. Groups of approximately 30 women will be participating in fun, informal tastings and discussions, with Charlie Hodgson, Head Brewer, talking briefly on each beer.

Sharon Welburn, Mash Brewing’s Marketing Coordinator was never a beer drinker before working at Mash. “I thought all beers tasted pretty much the same, but now that I get the opportunity to try different beers I’m surprised by all the different flavours,” she says. “I really think if females tried our beer, there would be at least one style that they would really enjoy.’

While Mash’s apple and pear ciders, ‘Crush’ and ‘Press’ respectively, have been a consistently popular choice amongst women, the brewery wants to encourage its female customers to try its craft beers. With options like the pale lager ‘Freo Doctor’ to a chocolaty but light ‘Koffee Stout’, it is confident it can create converts out of even the most cider-loyal of ladies.

As Hodgson says, “It’s just a matter of getting people to leave their perception of what ‘beer’ should smell and taste like at the door.”

Interested ladies should contact Mash Brewing for more information or a spot at the tasting evenings.
