Award-winning retailer Blackhearts & Sparrows is celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) by collaborating with CoConspirators Brewing Co for a third limited-edition beer and a free panel discussion to celebrate Women in Beer.
The event, which will take place at CoConspirators’ Brew Pub on Friday, 8 March is open not only to women, but everyone who loves to drink beer.
Blackhearts’ beer buyer, Cherry Murphy will host a number of the women she works alongside in the industry to discuss where they want to see the drinks industry moving towards and how more female-identifying people can join in on the journey.
Joining Murphy on the night is Jacqui Sacco, co-director of CoConspirators and co-Vice President of Pink Boots Society Australia, Sarah Turner, President of Pink Boots Society Australia, Jayne Lewis, founder of Full Colour Life and co-founder of Two Birds Brewing, and Andi Ross, founder and head distiller at Island Gin.
Striving for diversity in the alcohol industry is a cause close to the hearts of the Blackhearts & Sparrows team, with this event being part of a broader initiative spearheaded Murphy.
“I’m excited to empower and encourage other women to enter industries that have traditionally been male-dominated,” she said.
“In having an open dialogue around the direction we would like to see the industry go in, we can collectively move the social dial of what it means to be female-identifying when working in these spaces.”
This year’s IWD collaboration beer saw Murphy and the CoConspirators team making a style of beer that they love to drink all year round—the ESB.
The beer is headlined by a bold malt profile and complemented by a firm bitterness, and is a reminder of why the ESB has cemented its status as an enduring classic.
Attendees will have the opportunity to taste the beer two ways: by tap and by hand pump in homage to the ESB’s British roots, only available on the night.
