Sailors Grave and Bobbie Peels team up for tap takeover

Sailors Grave Brewing is collaborating with North Melbourne pub Bobbie Peels for a one night only tap takeover on 18 October.

Co-founder Chris Moore and Sales Manager Dayvid Clarke will be in attendance, hosting a bar shout from 5-6pm, pouring some of their favourite beers and chatting with locals.

Throughout the night there will also be a number of giveaways including limited-release merch, bar tabs, and large format beers pulled straight from the Sailors Grave cellar.

The pub’s beer taps will be pouring Sailors Grave favourites including, Sou’ East Draught, Drowned Man IPA, Squid vs Whale Maelstrom Hazy IPA and Point Break Sparkling Ocean Ale – a new release, classic Australian sparkling ale brewed with fresh seawater from Point Ricardo, across the road from Dunetown on the Cape Conran coastline.

Clarke told Beer & Brewer a collaboration like this in the big city is an exciting achievement for the brewery.

“We’re from a small town about five hours south-east of Melbourne, so community is at the heart of what we do. I’ve always loved the welcoming, social atmosphere at Bobbie Peels, it strikes that perfect balance between contemporary and classic pub, which is how I like to think our brewery fits into the beer scene too.”

The team at Bobbie Peels said Sailors Grave has long been a tap favourite and it brings them pride in supporting independent breweries and being able to pour $11.50 pints of Sailors Grave Draught Lager.

“It’s exciting to put a face to the name and give the locals an opportunity to chat all things beer and discover the stories behind the brew,” the team said.

“Collaborations like this remind people why independent venues and brewers matter. It’s a chance to connect directly, share ideas, and create something unique for the community. And honestly, it’s just good fun — which is what pubs and great beer are all about.”

Clarke echoed this sentiment, adding: “Collaboration is a key part of not just learning, but inspiration and brand evolution. There are so many moving parts within the food and beverage industry — everyone plays an important role, and everyone benefits from working together. Sometimes you get really lucky and spark a bit of magic in the process.”

Both Clarke and Moore are especially excited to be making an appearance on the night.

“Our brewery Dunetown, is about as far away from Melbourne as you can get while still being in Victoria, so Chris isn’t in town too often. It’s a great opportunity not just for punters, but for our co-founder and brewer to have a beer with the local community too.

“It’s great to share stories and experiences with the people who buy your products, especially as an independent, family-run business. It’s always valuable to hear what does (or doesn’t) resonate with people. It’s all about learning and growing, because we don’t make the beers just for ourselves,” said Clarke.

Entry is free and pricing for tapped beers starts at $11.50 a pint.
