Award-winning New South Wales brewery Mountain Culture Brewing Co. is set to open the doors to its fourth venue and first in Melbourne on 11 July.
The new venue is on the site of the former Fox Friday Brewpub, which was acquired by Mountain Culture in May.
Fox Friday Brewing entered voluntary administration in April, with the NSW-based brewery acquiring its assets including taprooms in Hobart and Perth, Carwyn Cellars and the Moonah Hotel & Cellars in Hobart.
In June, Mountain Culture revealed plans to rebrand the Fox Fridays in Melbourne and Hobart, taking over brewing operations on both sites.
Mountain Culture further decided to sell Carwyn Cellars back to its founders, Ben and Nicole Carwyn and on-sell the Perth brewpub to Rocky Ridge Brewing Co.
This major interstate move follows years of growth for the brewery, which began in Katoomba, NSW in 2019.
Co-founder and CEO DJ McCready commented on the significance of opening the Melbourne venue for the brand as a whole.
“This was a big move for Mountain Culture. We started as a humble brewpub in the Blue Mountains and expanded to Sydney, but Melbourne is quickly catching up as our biggest market,” he said.
As a brand dedicated to its community, McCready added: “It’s never lost on us that the fans we first met in Katoomba are what built this brand into what it is today, and we hope to build a community that’s just as strong in Melbourne now that we have an incredible venue in Richmond.”
The brewpub will be serving all beers from Mountain Culture’s core range and a limited release line-up, both on tap and to take away.
This includes favourites like Status Quo Pale Ale, awarded best craft beer in Australia three years in a row in the GABS Hottest 100, in addition to two brand new beers that will drop every Thursday.
The food menu will feature Australian pub favourites with a Mountain Culture twist. An onsite smoker will bring American BBQ inspired dishes, alongside an extensive range of gluten-free, vegetarian and kids’ meals.
Co-founder and Creative Director of Mountain Culture, Harriet McCready commented on the prime location of the new venue adding to the excitement.
“Richmond is a little slice of everything that’s great about Melbourne. Good coffee everywhere, footy just up the road, live music next door, dumplings around the corner,” she said.
“The brewpub is arguably one of the most beautiful venues in Melbourne, and we are excited to open it up and throw a good old Mountain Culture party!”
Mountain Culture is continuing the process of establishing its hospitality footprint across the country with its new Hobart venue set to launch at the end of July.
