Today is International Beer Day and the Brewers Association of Australia (BAA) said it will celebrate by recognising that every beer enjoyed is a representation of the almost 100,000 workers across Australia’s brewing industry.

This year’s celebration of beer has an extra impetus after the recent announcement from the Government that it would freeze the tax on draught beer for two years. The BAA said this was an extra reason to to meet up with family and friends at your local pub, club or licenced venue for a beer, even better.

The BBA said: “On behalf of our members, Brewers is proud of the contribution our industry makes to our national economy, to local economies and to communities all around the country, and thanks everyone across the brewing supply chain for the wonderful products Australians love.”

Speaking last week about the tax freeze, the new CEO of the Association, Amanda Watson, told Beer & Brewer: “The Brewers Association of Australia welcomes the Albanese Government’s moves in Parliament today to deliver on their commitment of a two-year freeze on draught beer excise indexation – our beer excise is the third highest in the world.

“This excise freeze is great news for Australia’s pubs, clubs and beer drinkers and is a positive signal from Government in terms of getting on with the job of delivering on pre-election commitments.

“We certainly thank the Prime Minister, the Treasurer and the Assistant Treasurer for backing this in today. Brewers will continue to work with the Government to ensure future excise reform is looked at seriously to support a sustainable Australian brewing sector.”

International Beer Day is a celebration of culture, craftsmanship and community, the world over.
