Local Tasmanian breweries, Moo Brew and Deep South Brewing have teamed up with global hop grower Yakima Chief Hops to brew a special collaboration beer that will raise funds for the Great Southern Reef Foundation (GRSF).

Australia’s Great Southern Reef stretches across 8000 kilometres of coastline and the GRSF is continually working to drive education and community engagement to decrease the threats to the reef through climate change and human impact. As well as raising funds for GSRF those involved with the beer also want it a connect the dots between land and sea and increase awareness for environmental responsibility.

The beer created uses Yakima Chief Hops’ newest variety Krush HBC 586, and the West Coast Pilsner is described as a “thirst-quenching and refreshing beer’. It is a “bright, clean and refreshingly balanced beer” with some of the tropical notes synonymous with Krush.

Jon Burridge, Yakima Chief hops Regional Sales Manager – Australia, said: “Moo Brew and Deep South are known for their clinical ability to constantly produce exceptionally tight and tasty beers, so we are extremely honoured to have them crafting this beer.

“What brings this all together, is that we all grew up either in, on, or around the ocean and to this day still have strong connection with the coastal waterways of Tasmania, as we pass these experiences and passion on to the next generation it’s important to not only enjoy the benefits but understand the ecosystem and the stewardship required to ensure this amazing environment is in its best condition for future generations. Can’t help but feel that this beer is personal.”

In a commitment to sustainability and innovation, the creators of this new beer have meticulously planned every aspect of its production, from the final product to its environmental footprint.

The collaboration brew features advanced hop products, in-house-cultured yeast, and fully recyclable packaging. Additionally, the team has implemented a comprehensive strategy aimed at minimising the carbon footprint of the beer and all related processes.

The World Ocean Day collaboration beer supporting the Great Southern Reef Foundation is available to venues from today, in order to be able to release on June 8, World Ocean Day.
