Sydney’s iconic pub, The Australian Heritage Hotel in The Rocks, will once again be hosting the Australian Beer Festival.

The ninth annual celebration will take place from 18-20 October 2013 – the beginning of SCBW – with extended opening hours and a brand new festival award.

For 2013 the festival will start at 4pm on Friday 18 October and run right through the weekend, giving visitors and extra day to enjoy the brews.

Gloucester Street will again be closed off for the festivities, with 24 stalls hosting Sydney, regional NSW and interstate brewers, showcasing the best beers and ciders Australia has to offer.

There will also be a handful of food stalls offering of selection of snacks for hungry punters including the pub’s famous pizzas.

In memory of brewer Geoff Scharer, the prestigious Geoff Scharer Best Overall Beer will crown the favourite brew of the festival, along with seven more awards including a new award for Best Cider. This year, brewers have also been encouraged to blend a unique, one-off beer, which will be exclusive to the festival.

The Home Brew Championship will also be back, encouraging homebrewers to put their beer-making skills to the test with the chance to win their very own stall at the festival as well as trips to the White Rabbit and Young Henrys breweries in Victoria and New South Wales respectively. Entrants will be judged by an expert panel and winners will be announced Thursday 12 September 2013.

Entry is free and tasting tickets are $15 for 10. Pre-purchase tickets will be available online from Thursday 15 August at www.australianheritagehotel.com.
