National rigid packaging supplier Plasdene Glass-Pak reached agreement to acquire the bottle distribution business of J.McCarthy, effective 29 April 2011.

Privately-owned Plasdene Glass-Pak was approached by McCarthys’ owner to buy the predominantly wine bottle distribution company, as it was his strong wish that his business be sold to an organisation which has the credentials to look after the requirements of their long term loyal customers, not only during hand-over, but well into the future. To assist in the transition process, long term McCarthys stalwart John Haines has joined Plasdene. Owned by the Pearson family, Plasdene Glass-Pak boasts 7 branches across the country, has almost 25 years experience in supplying packaging to the Australian wine industry, and is now the only national distributor for O-I Glass containers in the country.

“We truly are a one-stop-shop for packaging, with our range also including imported glass bottles, “Glass-Pak” carton dividers; plain and printed cartons and Guala closures to name a few. With similar business models, many of the same or complementary supply partners, clients and product range, as well as a like-minded approach to personal service, this strategic purchase makes sense,” says PG-P Managing Director Ken Pearson.

“McCarthy’s has traditionally serviced the various NSW wine regions. With two of our own PG-P Distribution Centres well established in both Sydney and Newcastle, we are well equipped to continue the outstanding service of McCarthys through Plasdene Glass-Pak in NSW and indeed across the country, for many years to come. We are delighted to take on this new challenge, and our team are working hard to provide a seamless transition,” says Pearson.
