Melbourne is set to welcome a new brewpub this month with the opening of Tallboy and Moose in Preston.

The brainchild of Dan Hall and Steve Germain, Tallboy and Moose will have eight craft beers on tap, takeaway growler fills and lots of local food options.

Hall has brewed at several of Melbourne’s best local breweries, including Hawkers Beer, BrewCult and Moon Dog, while Germain has worked in sales and marketing for several local and international craft brands and breweries.

The new brewpub will open Friday, 21 October, with four draught taps pouring the first few batches made by Tallboy and Moose, and the remaining four taps featuring a rotation of locally sourced guest beers and a cider.

House beers in the starting line-up include: Deep Steep (chamomile amber ale), Only Ella (single hop pale ale), Tallboy’s Cream Ale (easy drinker) and Tallboy’s Table Beer (balanced mid-strength).

Growler fills are on offer, with one-litre XL Tallboy cans to be available at a later date.

Tallboy and Moose has an open-plan warehouse style, with beer-hall benches, as well as date night café tables and lounge areas.

“We wanted to bring the best of both worlds,” said Hall.

“We’ve got the freshest beer possible, in an old industrial building, but we’ve brought in a lot of wood to cosy the space up. We want Tallboy and Moose to feel like a second living room for our locals.”

A beer garden out the front is in the works and will be ready in time to catch the summer sun. The main feature of the 490 square-metre space is the central 12m bar where drinkers can pull up a stool and sink into a tasting paddle.

For the first few weeks the venue will be open Friday and Saturday, while the brewery pumps away to fill additional taps with new styles. Eventually, Tallboy and Moose will open five days a week.
