Owner Steve Drissell outside the soon-to-be Iron Awe brewbar

The latest addition to the Sydney bar scene is inspired by the steel fabrication works that used to be housed in the Glebe premises.

With plans for an industrial interior, beer garden and 120-person capacity, owner Steve Drissell is looking to open an alleyway bar with a difference: hand-pumped Real Ale, straight from his on-site microbrewery.

Currently in the throws of installing his second-hand 5 hectolitre brewery, Drissell says that the venue will serve fresh beer, home-cooked pizza and offer live music, with Iron Awe pitching squarely at the thirsty craft beer fans of the inner west that have, until recently, been rather neglected in terms of venues.

A keen homebrewer, Drissell has plans to introduce a little of his homeland to the inner city suburb of Glebe with authentic Real Ales on the hand-pump as well as a steady supply of rotating taps that are set to feature beers from a host of local craft breweries.

The grand opening is still a little way off – Drissell is hoping to open in approximately six months – but the beer scene in Sydney is set to get a little more awesome.
