Good Beer Week 2014 is happening very soon in Melbourne, and it’s promising to be an absolute cracker of a festival, with 200 unique craft beer events over nine froth-filled days.
It’s the fourth annual Good Beer Week for Melbourne, and it’ll run from May 17 to 25 in venues across Melbourne and regional Victoria, featuring some of the best and brightest brewers from Australia and the rest of the world.
“Craft beer has moved from the shadows into the Australian mainstream in the past few years and we’re delighted that Good Beer Week has been a part of that movement,” says Festival Director James Smith. “Every year we’ve welcomed new venues and new guests to the Festival and this year is no different, with everything from comedy and surfing to crafts and live music on the lineup to entice people along. With pretty much every brewer in Australia and guests from New Zealand, Japan, Lebanon, Europe and the US along for the ride, it promises to be a fantastic celebration of the best the beer world.”
From the Australian brewers, you can expect some great new brews from the likes of Young Henrys, who have put together a beer with Sydney punk stalwarts Frenzal Rhomb, as well as a new brew from Melbourne’s Cavalier Brewing, who teamed up with the Grossi Florentino crew.
Coming in from overseas are Youichi Kuichi, owner of Japan’s 200-year-old sake brewery Kiuchi and brewer of Hitachino Nest beers, gypsy brewer Brian Strumke of Stillwater Artisanal Ales and Frank Peifer, who is the head brewer at the world’s oldest brewery, Bavaria’s Weihenstephan.
