In a WA first, Brisbane’s Green Beacon Brewing are doing an exclusive tap takeover this Australia Day at The Windsor Hotel’s Verandah Bar.
They’ll be showcasing four of their premium craft brews – Pale Ale, Passionfruit Sour, Lager & Tropical Pale Ale – as well as a limited release drop of their brand new Double Hazy IPA & Mango Sour.

Beer & BBQ Festival’s inaugural HomeBrewed festival, the summertime sibling of the annual winter event, is gearing up for a weekend-long celebration at the Adelaide Showgrounds from February 5th – 7th 2021.
After a COVID-related postponement, the open-air event will come to life across the Hamilton Boulevard and Jubilee Plaza, with a jam-packed line up full of amazing local brewers, BBQ’ers and musicians (as well as some interstate buddies), alongside competitions, live street art, karaoke and heaps more.
“It’s been a wild ride the past 10 months for us, the brewers, the chefs and the artists so we just can’t wait to give them a platform to do their thing. There have been so many challenges, but we are so proud of the line-up and those contributing to the fest. Special thanks to our punters who have held on to their tickets and shown such an appetite for what we have in store” says event organiser, Aaron Sandow.
The Beer & BBQ Festival team have been working closely with SA Health since July 2020 to ensure best practice in delivering a safe, COVID-friendly event, including ample sanitization, heightened cleaning procedures, contract tracing, and plenty of space in the open-air venue.
“Our goal is to deliver the best experience possible to our festival-goers in the current climate. Being open-air is great, punters will be able to meander the site at their leisure, visiting brewers, watching a band and eating the delicious BBQ on offer, while remaining safe” says Sandow.

BBQ: Wing’s World (the party time, excellent worldwide debut) slinging hot wings by the kilo, Sneaky Tiki (from the legendary team behind Sneaky Pickle) building bang on tacos, RG’s Home of Low’n’Slow doing American BBQ right and Sooki La La bring the Asian BBQ party.
Beats: Los Palms, Rat Ta’Mango, Thom Lion, Lazaro’s Dog, The Young & The Wrestlers and DJs across two stages.
Beer & BBQ Festival was scheduled to go ahead during December 2020 but was postponed due to South Australia’s second lockdown.

The Taphouse are also hosting a special all-day free event on March 6 – the day of the Mardi Gras parade. Doors open at 10am and the festivities will kick off with drag bingo, where prizes include generous bar tabs for first and second place. A best-dressed surprise “Unicorn Prize” will also be announced. The parade itself will be live on televisions throughout the venue in the evening, while Sydney Drag Queen Krystal Kleer will emcee and perform alongside DJ Karmel Jäger.
At Busselton Foreshore’s Signal Park, it will showcase the best the south west region offers, from Mandurah all the way to Denmark. Over 120 local beers, many of them curated just for the festival, will be on offer alongside wines from a region famous for them as well as the food, music and entertainment to match. Split in to day (11am – 4pm) and night (5pm – 10pm) sessions, tickets can be purchased for as little as $20 which incudes a reusable cup – which can be filled for $6 or 100ml tasters are $2.

Mercure Canberra will host the 14th Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival on Saturday 20 March with an expanded venue and special COVID-safe arrangements.
The expansion of the event has been made possible as a result of a grant from the ACT Government to support events while the festival size has been increased to now include the grounds of the Mercure Canberra and the adjoining lawns of Batman and Gooreen Streets in Braddon.
To ensure a comfortable, safe and uncrowded environment, the Festival will now be split into two ticketed sessions from 11am to 2pm and 3pm to 6pm. All transactions will be cashless, with a simple tap-and-go system in place for purchases.
Approximately 40 local and interstate exhibitors will be presenting up to 250 craft beers and ciders for tasting. There will also be beer/cider food-matching sessions, guest speakers and ‘meet the brewers’ sessions. A range of dining options (including local gourmet food vendors), live entertainment and family activities will be available throughout the day.
Canberra locals BentSpoke Brewing Co, Capital Brewing Co, Jono’s Jerky and others will be on show alongside interstate exhibitors like Sydney Brewery, Stone Dog Meadery, 4 Pines Brewing, Mountain Goat Beer, Lord Nelson Brewery and James Squire. Specialist cideries such as Franks Cider and Willie Smith’s Cider will exhibit their range of ciders.
Advance purchase tickets will be available for $20pp and $30pp on the day through Moshtix (booking fees apply). Children have free access to the event when accompanying parents.
Tastings (150ml) are available for $4 each.
Once again, the Festival will help raise funds for Rise Above Capital Region Cancer Relief, a locally based group that provides support for over 950 cancer patients.
Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival organiser, Jenny Farrell, said that after the disappointment of having to cancel the event in 2020, the new-look Festival will provide a tremendous showcase for Australia’s best brewers.
“To have such easy access to 40 craft brewers and three hours of entertainment for as little as $20 entry provides a perfect opportunity for both serious lovers of beer and cider and those who just want to enjoy a fun, family-friendly event in a really attractive venue,” she said.
“Canberra is the perfect place for a long weekend, so we will be expecting a large number of visitors who want to combine the Festival with visits to the many other nearby attractions.”

The ‘Beer Fest 2021’ package includes overnight accommodation at the 4-star Mercure Canberra, a 4-pack of award-winning Sydney Brewery beers, entry to the Festival, and breakfast. The package is available from $149 per room per night for one or two people (conditions apply).
Presented by Little Creatures, the Supreme Court Gardens event will offer over 300 unique, exotic and small batch craft beer, ciders, seltzers, and cocktails as well as the likes of live comedy, international food and beer master classes. The festival is spread across three sessions (Friday evening 5pm – 10pm), Saturday day (11am – 4pm) and Saturday evening (5pm – 10pm). Tickets are as little as $20 while drinks will vary in cost from $1 to $2 for 100ml tastings to $6 to $9 for a 300ml pour.
With an epic line-up of bands and breweries, Beechworth’s High Country Hop will be music to your beers.
Now in its sixth year, Beechworth’s much-loved High Country Hop returns on March 27 and 28 in an all-new location but with the same old epic line-up of fresh and unique beers plus music, food, wine and spirits.
Founded by Bridge Road Brewers in 2015, The Hop will take place for the first time in Beechworth’s picturesque historic precinct.
Bridge Road’s founder Ben Kraus said: “I’m really proud, not only for the business and our team, but for Beechworth and the region to be able to announce The High Country Hop this year. Last year was such a downer for everyone given a summer of bushfires and smoke, followed by the lockdowns. Beer festivals globally haven’t really happened at all for the past 12 months, so it really is significant to be in a position to commit to our own this year.”
Bridge Road beers will be available alongside ones from fellow locals Billson’s Brewery, Bright Brewery, Mitta Mitta Brewing, Crankhandle Brewery, King River Brewing and Black Dog Brewery while Range Brewing from Brisbane, and East Gippsland’s Sailor’s Grave will be also on show.
Brisbane’s best heavy beer event is happening on April Fool’s Day – no joke
Now in its fourth year, Fritzenberger’s heavy beer event the Double Digit Duke Out will be held on Thursday April 1st from 6pm. Going head to head to be crowed the Double Digit Duke Out champ, each brewery will present a limited-edition beer that follows the year’s theme and has an ABV of 10% or higher. The theme of this year’s event is fittingly ‘something foolish’ and it needs to be incorporated in the beer or beer-making process in some way.
The competitors in this year’s Double Digit Duke Out are: The reigning champion Brewditos, local legends Brisbane Brewing Co., the newest kids on the local block Sealegs Brewings Co. and the hosts Fritzenberger.
There is also the chance to win a year’s supply of burgers on the night. If you share your beery pictures during the Double Digit Event on Instagram using #fritzenberger & #doubeldigitdukeout you will go in the draw to win. The winner will be announced at 8.30pm during the event. They must be onsite to win.
