The Melbourne craft brewing community and beer fans are invited to the third annual Big Bashes cricket match and family day on Saturday, 27 February at St Kilda Primary School oval.

Last year, The Local Taphouse Hop Hounds levelled the head-to-head tally with the Maestros of Malt, the industry team of brewers and beer writers.

At stake is the Hop Ashes – a mini keg containing ashes of hops burned ceremonially at the inaugural game in 2014.

“People in our industry rarely get a chance to just hang out together, particularly with their beer-loving friends, family and other beer fans,” said The Local Taphouse co-owner Guy Greenstone.

“So we hope the beer community comes out to celebrate what deserves to be celebrated!”

The day will feature a tug of war between brewers and beer fans, sausage sizzle, jumping castle, face painting, egg and spoon races, local craft beer for the big kids and much more.

Respected beer larrikin Pete Mitcham will again take post as the umpire and all proceeds from food and drink sales will be donated to St Kilda Primary School.
