East 9th Brewing is set to introduce Australian consumers to the new movement of alcoholic root beer, with the release of its Future Memoirs Of A Root Beer.

With a signature blend of flavours including sassafras, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger, Future Memoirs Of A Root Beer (4% ABV) provides an interesting, sessionable alternative to traditional beers.

“Over the last six months, we’ve been working away quietly on creating the perfect taste profile for Future Memoirs Of A Root Beer,” East 9th Brewing’s Ben Cairns told Beer & Brewer.

“With no real basis for comparison here in Australia, it’s been a long road of sampling and trial and error to get the balance just right.”

Alcoholic root beer has been earmarked as the next big thing in booze, with many brands in the US hitting the market.

The growing category reaped more than US$111m in 2015, according to IRI Worldwide research, with the brand Not Your Father’s Root Beer the category leader.

“We had always loved the idea of root beer and the thought of bringing one to market in Australia.  In the last year or so, alcoholic root beer has gained some huge momentum in the US, and we noticed a definite opportunity to deliver our take on the category to Australian consumers,” said Cairns.

The alcoholic root beer joins the rest of the East 9th Brewing family, which includes Fog City Cloudy Cider, Fog City Red Sangria, Doss Blockos Pale Lager and Lick Pier Ginger Beer.

Future Memoirs Of A Root Beer will be available nationally from next month and is best served over ice.
