Winter brews - 2007/07/16 15:26 It's cold outside. Very bloody cold!

I tend to switch my swilling for the winter months to warmer, heavier beers, like stouts, porters and real ales. Nothing takes the edge off a chilly winter evening like a room temperature (about 4 degrees in my back shed) Coopers Vintage with your feet up next to the fire.

Who's got a winter warmer they can recommend? What's in the fridge (or in the shed) for the colder part of the year?

Re:Winter brews - 2007/07/18 07:45 I really like knocking back some of the vintage beers around winter time, Chimay Blue, Trois Pistoles, the ones that have that real belly warming quality like a good port. Some of the 'strong' beers do that too, Though I don't need any excuse to drink coopers vintage any time of the year some of the polish mocne beers are good and Warka strong is OK.
Any of the dark Wheat beers are winners as well, Aventinus is F'ing mint but Erdinger and Weihenstephan dunkell's will also do.
Err... I can see all my posts will turn in to shopping lists unless I stop now.

Re:Winter brews - 2007/07/18 13:28 You don't need to seel me on the Weihenstephaner dunkell, it's one of my top 10. My Weihenstephaner glasses are a prized treasure in my place. Here's hoping they are always full!

The Polish mocne beers aound interesting, can you give us more info?

Re:Winter brews - 2007/07/21 23:17 Mocne is Polish for Strong, The one's I have available locally are Perla, Okocim, Warka, and used to have Zamkowe Mocne as well though this brewery proved troublesome to deal with for the local importer. I won't post my e-mail here but as a mod you should be able to email me a contact and I could get you in touch with the importer to find out where they are available on your side of the nullabor If you like. Or even look up the Beer store on yellowpages.com and you could call me at work lol
I don't mind saying those Polak's know a thing or two about a good brew! Theres a small Polish beer Invasion going on over here, I recommend their beers all the time.

Re:Winter brews - 2007/08/31 09:21 A nice double-bock Bavarian style certainly would make the trick.
Not only warms the monks in the cold months of November to March in the Northern Hemispere.

Cheers,
Mick
