Favourite lager - 2007/09/22 08:30 inspired by the favourite beer of all time thread, i was wondering what everyones favourite lager is?

Ive only been acquiring my enthusiasm for beer recently and my recent favourites are lowenbrau, kronenbourg, staropramen, amstel and heineken. my favourite of the aussies would be bluetounge premium at the moment.

i think ales will appeal to me down the track but dont right at the moment.

what are everyone elses favourites?

Re:Favourite lager - 2007/10/27 07:49 I am a beer lover and bottle collector. i have over 300 bottles in my collection, and have tried a lot more beers than that. all the beers that you mentioned are great beers.Except i worry that the Heineken you tried was Australian made. look for Heineken imported totally different. same goes with becks. all this aside my fave lager is; Australian, Gage Roads and international, Wehnstephaner

certainly the imported stuff is what i look for but they are hard to find.. i have found some in wollongong imported by the kollaras group, but i live in canberra, are there any chains that avoid brewed under license in australia? otherwise beerstore.com.au is the best option i guess

Re:Favourite lager - 2007/11/28 06:50 I can't go past Knappsteins Lager at the moment. If you haven't picked up a four pack, give it a burl. Let it warm for about 3 minutes out of the fridge and knock it back after mowing the lawn. Delish.

Hello lyons Bar, I collect beer bottles as well, i have about 600 0f the 1940/50's King browns and about 300 of a variety starting from the 1880's when they used corks up until the 1930's. I still use mine for brewing and I often wonder who opened the bottle first and how many hands had it passed through; my mates think i'm nuts.
I have a friend in England who is collecting Russian Imperial Stout bottles for me, they are shaped like an older style Port bottle. My others I have found a lot of under shearing sheds and also in the sawdust pits of old sawmills, I have only found one full bottle and that is a Simonds Pale ale hop leaf brand brewed in Reading, England, to date i have not been able to find any info on the brewery, regards Rabbie
