Question about Cascade Spicy Ghost?!?! - 2008/08/08 10:56 Just a question fellas' I've just recently brewed a batch of Cascade Spicy Ghost....the flavour is ummmm interesting. I find it has a very soapy flavour to it....just wondering if anyone else has brewed this particular kit and did you get the same "soapiness" or did I do something wrong. By the way, I didn't even use detergent when I cleaned my bottles so that one is out. My fermenter was also clean as a whistle so no soap there. I used the yeast that came with the kit and also pitched some lager yeast as well. Just let me know what you think....its a very easy drinking brew but has that sickening soap flavour so yeah. Thanks.

Re:Question about Cascade Spicy Ghost?!?! - 2008/08/12 17:23 Hey magicmack, I am not sure about the 'soapy' flavour profile if all is detergent free, but I have found that a few extra weeks in the bottle (ie 4) have helped with any 'rough' or sulphery flavours from a cascade pale ale or lager. These settled down using a safale/saflager yeast though.

Re:Question about Cascade Spicy Ghost?!?! - 2008/08/29 11:38 I've used alot of the Cascade Spicy Ghost as a base for mostly ales along with the yeast provided. I usually add some additional darker malts for additional flavoring. Never had any "soapy" taste although one mate did comment that he thought there was a "chemical" undertone to 1 batch.. I put it down to his tastebuds taking the afternoon off. Maybe it was my tastebuds taking the day off.

I've now switched to other base malts - mostly Muntons & other classier types.
